Arguably one of Disney's finest animated characters.  Well, at least I could argue it anyway, (and probably lose.)  Nevertheless, Sir Hiss has always had a special place in my heart.  I'm not sure why, really.  He is a snively, codependent little snake, generally pretty evil, yet not bad enough to officially be labeled a "Disney Villain", I wouldn't think.   Even though he was in insufferable know-it-all, he didn't deserve to be tortured so brutally at the hands of Prince John.

Disney's Robin Hood has always been one of my favorites of theirs.  Love it.  I mean, it's a classic.  I still get those "Disney Goosebumps" when the rooster-narrator sings the  Every Town song.  You know which one I'm talking about?  I could just cry thinking about it.  You know, it's hard enough to capture an audience in movies these days, make them care about the characters and what happens to them.  I've seen so many movies lately that were pretty good, great cinematography and all that jazz, but when it came down to it, I just didn't connect with the characters and was only mildly interested in their fates.  Now, you can love Disney or hate them, but you gotta give 'em props for creating some of the most endearing characters of all time, plus they aren't even people!  You'll find yourself getting emotional over a turtle dressed in pantaloons and derby hat, now THAT is suspension of disbelief, my friends.

Oh hey, I found the song I was talking about up there (love ya, youtube!), it's actually called Not in Nottingham.  Let's listen to it together, and shed a tear for injustice.

(A pox on the phony King of England!)

A New Thing...

Friday's blog posts will henceforth serve as a shrine to some of  my favorite people.   Many of these special individuals are quiet, unsung heroes that have been dismissed and overlooked.  Some of them are just prominent, famous people that are super-cool.  Some may not even be people at all, anything goes!  I'm so excited to have a weekly assignment for the blog, and now, without further ado, I give you the first installment:

Hero1

You may remember this sprightly, 80's actor from his guest appearances on 21 Jump Street or Growing Pains, but his commanding role as "Richie" in the classic late-80's flick Teen Witch  was surely the bright spot in is short and awkward Hollywood career.  If you haven't seen Teen Witch....you should.  As soon as possible.  Words fail to describe the awesomely horribleness of this movie/musical/whatever.  And J. Miller's performance as the annoying, mental ,younger brother will leave you speechless (and maybe nauseous.)   Here, check it out:

He has a subtle, comic genius that not everyone can appreciate.  (I think he would be very popular with the French.  Fantastique!)  So, thank you Mr. Miller.  Thank you for making a bad movie worse.  Thank you for the feeble attempt to flesh out a character that had no hope, in a movie that had no point.  (And than you for taking the liberty of ironing my homework.)
