Arguably one of Disney's finest animated characters.  Well, at least I could argue it anyway, (and probably lose.)  Nevertheless, Sir Hiss has always had a special place in my heart.  I'm not sure why, really.  He is a snively, codependent little snake, generally pretty evil, yet not bad enough to officially be labeled a "Disney Villain", I wouldn't think.   Even though he was in insufferable know-it-all, he didn't deserve to be tortured so brutally at the hands of Prince John.

Disney's Robin Hood has always been one of my favorites of theirs.  Love it.  I mean, it's a classic.  I still get those "Disney Goosebumps" when the rooster-narrator sings the  Every Town song.  You know which one I'm talking about?  I could just cry thinking about it.  You know, it's hard enough to capture an audience in movies these days, make them care about the characters and what happens to them.  I've seen so many movies lately that were pretty good, great cinematography and all that jazz, but when it came down to it, I just didn't connect with the characters and was only mildly interested in their fates.  Now, you can love Disney or hate them, but you gotta give 'em props for creating some of the most endearing characters of all time, plus they aren't even people!  You'll find yourself getting emotional over a turtle dressed in pantaloons and derby hat, now THAT is suspension of disbelief, my friends.

Oh hey, I found the song I was talking about up there (love ya, youtube!), it's actually called Not in Nottingham.  Let's listen to it together, and shed a tear for injustice.

(A pox on the phony King of England!)

I love that movie too! I must have seen it a dozen times as a kid, but that was a long time ago now. I always thought Robin Hood was so handsome and exciting, even if he was a fox :)

I love that one! It is my favorite. That song is one of disney's best I think.

Maybe this is the reason I never saw Teen Witch. I used to watch this over and over and over again. This and Old Yeller.

Gosh, I love that song, too.

My favorite part is when he gets put in the barrel of ale...a drunk snake is always funny.

We love Robin Hood and to be honest, we're proud to be a family who loves Disney. Sure, you can knock the commercialism, but we take in Disney for all of its good (animation as an art form, keeping animation alive and bringing about its renaissance, creating -- yes, I said it -- family entertainment) and we just don't buy (literally or figuratively) all the extra stuff. There will never be another Uncle Walt. If you love old Disney stuff, check out these two blogs:

Ah, I, too, watched this over and over and over as a child! I loved Lady Cluck and Little John, they seemed to have something going on, too (but as an adult, a bear hooking up with a chicken? Probably not a good idea with regards to her mortality).
I loved Sir Hiss when he gulped. An Adam's Apple on a snake is just funny (and I guess proves he is male?).

I loooooove this movie and sir hiss! I always got mad when they stuck him in that barrel of ale. Haha.

Oh, wow. Robin Hood is probably one of, if not my absolute favorite movie ever. EVER. And even as a child, I did used to get sooooooo sad when the rooster would sing that song, and the poor little church mice were locked in shackles....*tear* Its good to know I'm not the only one! :)

I work evenings and weekends in a pediatric clinic and we have a tv in the waiting room. We just recently switched to a DVD player from VHS and this is the movie I requested. I play it at least twice during the weekends. My favorite part is when the bunnies are plying with the bow and arrow and they meet Maid Marian and Lady Kluck. So cute!

OH my gosh - this is one of my fave Disney movies too. I cry almost every time I watch it. I love oh-di-lally....Robin Hood and Little John running through the forest, laughing back and forth at what the other had to say, reminiscing this and that and having such a good time...Guess what I'm going to request that we watch tonight?

We watch it almost weekly. My son often pretends to be Robinhood, running around the house, dressed in anything green he can find. I get to be Maid Marion. Not a bad gig!

this was totally my favorite as a kid. i think we actually wore out the vhs tape. and my brother and i loved sir hiss. we always used to say to each other "i tried to tell you, but no no no, you wouldn't listen". ah fun memories. thanks!

Oh my. LOVE this movie...I even have it on DVD and might have to go and watch it. Right. Now.

Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day.

It is amazing to me that yo posted this. Just yesterday I asked my boss if he had ever seen this movie because for some reason I was whistling the whistle song all day! I haven't seen this movie in so long!

MY BROTHER AND I LISTENED TO THIS RECORD {LP 33} WHILE LOOKING AT THE STORY BOOK AS CHILDREN. WHEN I FOUND THE VIDEO ON LINE I PLAYED IT FOR HIM AND A BIG SMILE CAME ACROSS HIS FACE. SUCH GREAT MEMORIES OF TRUE STORY TELLING TALENT. I WISH I STILL HAD THE DISNEY RECORDS OF THOSE DAYS. MY NEPHEWS WOULD HAVE A WHOLE NEW APPRECITATION FOR ROBIN HOOD.
