Just when I was seriously starting to wonder how I was going to find some reasonable packing materials.......an unexpected trip to Norfolk Floral Wholesale has filled my attic with lovely boxes of all shapes and sizes! Yay! They were just sitting in a huge pile in front of the store, waiting for the garbage collector. I backed the truck up and loaded it absolutely full. I may even go back and get more today, it there not already gone. What's so great about these boxes are the SIZES. Mostly small, and perfect for what I'd be shipping. I am so lucky to find them!!!
I've broken them all down so they'll fit in the attic without taking up too much space. I'm still very new to the whole selling-things-on-etsy deal, and I have had very little experience in packing and shipping. I'm still leaning, but I really want to keep the shipping/handling costs as low as I possible can. I know that it's expensive, but I just hate seeing something I want to buy, and the shipping is as much as the item (or more!) Do any of you on-line sellers out there have any good advice for me in this area? I would REALLY appreciate it! Also, I'm partial to USPS, does anyone use another carrier that they'd recommend? I'd love some feedback.
So anyway, Norfolk Floral Wholesale not ONLY provided me with free boxes (thank you!) but they are also a very inspirational store in general. I found the corsage boxes I was looking for. I plan to use them with that OTHER project that I was hinting too, but I haven't made much progress yet....I'll keep you posted. Also, they had great prices on cello bags, good prices on Styrofoam balls (my mom needs to get over there) and, of course, tons of gorgeous flowers. Inspired by this cool place, I've started yet another TypeList entitled "I *heart* Hampton Roads." And it's true, I love where I live. This area of Virginia is heavily scrutinized, but I just really love living here. I plan to keep a large list of all my favorite spots as a small tribute.
On a totally unrelated note, we watched Great Balls of Fire last night. It's the older movie about Jerry Lee Lewis with Dennis Quaid and Winona Rider. I hadn't seen it in years, and I really enjoyed it. I was watching Walk the Line last week and that's what made me think of it. A quick trip to my queue, a day later, and...there it was! (SO loving Netflix....) Also, did anyone else think that Walk the Line had one of the saddest, most depressing beginnings EVER? I mean, I'm a big old sap under normal conditions, but a cute kid dying from a saw mill accident and talking about the angles singing?!?!? I was a blubbery, bawling mess...and it was two minutes into the movie! Luckily, Joaquin came on the scene and I could forget everything else....mmmm, Joaquin. (I could watch him pick his nose for 90 minutes and I'd still be entertained. : )
